I never owned a camera until I moved to Alaska, a little over 2 years ago. I got one...nothing fancy, just something I could take pictures of my son on to send back to family in Oregon.
While out for a day of snowboarding and sledding with my son, in a hurry to get back to the lodge for some hot chocolate and to warm up, I was almost at the bottom when I noticed my son doddling along still pretty close to the top. I never owned a camera until I moved to Alaska, a little over 2 years ago. I got one...nothing fancy, just something I could take pictures of my son on to send back to family in Oregon.
While out for a day of snowboarding and sledding with my son, in a hurry to get back to the lodge for some hot chocolate and to warm up, I was almost at the bottom when I noticed my son doddling along still pretty close to the top. He would walk 30 or so feet and then just stop. He'd look around and move along another few feet and stop again. After about the 3rd or 4th time of this, I was convinced that this was just another weapon in his arsonal to drive me crazy! I went back up the hill to hurry his happy little butt along. I was about to scold him for taking his time while i nearly froze my butt off when he said, " Gosh Dad, don't you even appreciate what a beautiful place we live in? Did you even take a picture? He was right. The only pictures I had taken were of him. I am very lucky to live in an area where there is so much beauty and contrast.
That day, as i reviewed the pictures I had taken, a new love was born. A love of photography, Alaska's beauty and for my son who took the time to teach me to appreciate the simple beauties in life. Since then, my camera is close at hand. Most of the pictures in my gallery are things i see in my daily life.
